Happy Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day is a well-deserved tribute to all workers who keep our economy running. Enjoy your day off.

Labor Day was conceived by trade and labor unions as a day to honor the work performed by their membership. The first Labor Day celebration in the US was in New York City in 1882. By 1894, when it became a national holiday, thirty states officially celebrated it. (US Department of Labor link 1 and link 2, Wikipedia link).

Labor Day is celebrated in a number of countries around the world, including Switzerland. However, it is celebrated on May 1st in conjunction with International Worker's Day, and only some of the cantons celebrate it (see link).
