What to do with Google Analytics in Europe

Things do not look good for users of Google Analytics. So far, three national data protection authorities -- Austria, France and Italy -- have found that using Google Analytics violates the GDPR. And, that users should stop using it (link).

While it is easy to say stop, there do not appear to be good alternatives for website owners. A fact even the French authority acknowledges (link).
