How to protect recipes?

In 2015, I blogged about how cooking recipes were not protectable under copyright law (link 1, link 2).

Recently, I saw an article examining whether you could protect a food truck recipe with patents and trade secrets (see link). The takeaways were: (1) that a person was unlikely to obtain a patent to protect a recipe, and (2) that trade secrets should be looked at to protect a recipe.
